Terms of Service

Last updated June 28, 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of Adopted Adults, including our website and mobile applications (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, Liability Waiver, and Cancellation Policy, each of which is incorporated here by reference.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

2. Who can use Adopted Adults

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. The Service is intended only for adults.

You must be a real person using your real identity, and you must complete identity verification. You may hold only one account, and you agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it up to date.

You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. What Adopted Adults is, and is not

Adopted Adults is a community platform that helps verified adults host one another and be hosted. Members offer stays in their homes (“adoptions”) and arrange visits with one another.

Adopted Adults is not a party to any stay, agreement, or interaction between members. We are not a host, a guest, a landlord, a travel agency, or an insurer. We do not own, operate, manage, or control any home, and we do not supervise stays. Members are solely responsible for their own conduct and for the arrangements they make with one another.

4. Your account and identity verification

To participate, you must complete identity verification through our verification provider and complete any required steps, such as a video call, before a stay can be confirmed. Verification helps the community but is not a guarantee of any member’s identity, character, or conduct.

We may decline, suspend, or remove verification or account access at our discretion, including where we are unable to verify your identity or where we believe an account is being misused.

5. Community standards and member conduct

Adopted Adults works because people treat each other well. You agree to be honest, respectful, and reliable; to honor the commitments you make; and to follow each home’s house rules.

You agree to keep communication on the platform until a stay is confirmed, to show up when you say you will, and to treat hosts, guests, and their homes with care.

You agree not to harass, threaten, demean, or discriminate against anyone, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. By using the Service you agree not to post or share content that is unlawful, obscene, pornographic, hateful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable, and not to harass, abuse, or harm any other member. You can report content or members and block anyone directly in the app. We review reports and remove objectionable content and the members responsible, typically within 24 hours.

Membership is built around genuine hosting. Members are expected to keep at least one real, active adoption and to participate in good faith, rather than using the community only to travel.

6. Hosting, visiting, and stays

When you host or visit, you do so voluntarily and at your own risk. You are responsible for deciding who you host or stay with, for your own safety, and for complying with all laws that apply to you, including any lease, mortgage, insurance, tax, zoning, or local rules that may apply to hosting guests in your home.

You are responsible for accurately describing your home and what you offer, for disclosing anything a reasonable guest would want to know (including the presence of cameras, weapons, or other safety-relevant conditions), and for providing a stay that matches your listing.

7. Your content and the license you grant

“Content” means anything you submit to the Service, including your profile, photos, video, listings, messages, and reviews. You retain ownership of your Content.

By submitting Content, you grant Adopted Adults a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and use that Content to operate, provide, and improve the Service. This license ends when you delete the Content or your account, except for copies retained for legal, safety, or backup purposes, and except where the Content has been shared with others who retain it.

You represent that you own or have the rights to the Content you submit, and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or violate any law.

8. Things you may not do

You agree not to: use the Service if you are under 18; create more than one account or impersonate anyone; post false, misleading, infringing, obscene, hateful, or unlawful Content; harass, stalk, or endanger anyone; or solicit or arrange anything illegal.

You also agree not to: request, offer, or exchange money or other payment for a stay, or move a stay off-platform to avoid our safety tools before it is confirmed; collect or scrape other members’ data; interfere with, probe, or disrupt the Service or its security; or use the Service for any commercial purpose we have not authorized.

9. Safety, reporting, and enforcement

If something feels wrong, use the in-app tools to report or block another member, and contact local emergency services in an emergency.

Safety violations are treated as a one-strike matter and can result in immediate removal. A removed person may not rejoin under a new identity. We may also suspend or remove members for fake, misleading, or low-effort listings, a pattern of cancellations or no-shows, prolonged inactivity, or any violation of these Terms.

We may review reports, content, and account activity, and we may remove content or take action on accounts to protect the community. We are not obligated to monitor the Service but may do so.

10. No fees and no payments

The Service is free to use, and stays are free. Adopted Adults does not charge members and does not collect, process, or hold payments for stays.

No member should ever ask you for money in connection with a stay. If anyone does, do not pay, and report them to us.

11. Reviews

Reviews must be honest, first-hand, and based on a genuine experience. You may not post fake, incentivized, or retaliatory reviews, or attempt to manipulate ratings. We may remove reviews that violate these Terms.

12. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its name, logo, design, software, and content we provide, is owned by Adopted Adults and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service except as expressly permitted.

13. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers (for example, for identity verification, video calls, maps, email, hosting, and error monitoring). Your use of features that depend on these providers may be subject to their terms, and we are not responsible for third-party services. Links or references to third-party sites are provided for convenience and are not endorsements.

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any member, listing, home, or stay will meet your expectations. We do not endorse any member and do not guarantee anyone’s identity, conduct, or safety. You interact with other members at your own risk.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Adopted Adults and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, personal injury, property damage, or other losses arising out of or relating to your use of the Service or any stay or interaction arranged through it, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

16. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Adopted Adults and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your Content, your use of the Service, any stay or interaction you take part in, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

17. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or to protect the community or the Service.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including content licenses already granted to others, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification, will survive.

18. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Adopted Adults is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before bringing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us so we can try to resolve the matter informally.

Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the courts located in that state, and you consent to their personal jurisdiction and venue.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be communicated through the app where appropriate, and your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
